SID88
The market leader low- frequency underwater locating device.

Transmitting at 8.8 kHz means a larger detection range.
SID88 is a Low-Frequency Underwater Locator Device (LF-ULD) for aircrafts. The detectable acoustic range of recorder ULB currently in use limited due to their transmission frequency of 37.5 kHz. A LF-ULD transmitting at 8.8 kHz has a far longer detection range due to its lower frequency. ICAO Annex 6, Amendment 36 states that and LF-ULD shall be installed on all aircraft with a take-off mass of over 27.000kg, operation over water at specific distances to land. Since January 2018 a securely attached LF-ULD is required.

The SID88 key facts:

1. Housing
The case withstands pressure down to a water depth of 6,096 m (20,000 ft) and can absorb extreme impact forces without damage. The SID88 is absolutely waterproof and is also resistant to chemicals thanks to its special surface coating.

2. Activation and range
SID88 has an intelligent activation and starts emitting the signal upon immersion into fresh or salt water. The detection range is three to five times higher than a ULB due to the low frequency signal.

3. Design and mounting
By integrating the attachment points directly into the beacon design, there is no need for an additional mounting bracket. In addition the beacon is lighter in weight and easier to attach. The design ensures maximum performance of the beacon signal as the radiation pattern is much more spherical and therefore more efficient.

4. Battery
The capacity of the battery is sufficient for a minimum transmission time of 90 days – even though the battery has a low lithium content. The lithium content is below one gram, which significantly facilitates shipment of the beacon. For comparison: other common products contain close to two grams of lithium.

5. Maintenance
A battery replacement can be done for the SID88 to gain a new shelf life of six years. We recommend to do the battery replacement at the Novega facility in order to receive a warranty extension.
